12th - 18th April 2017
This week-long annex to the 'Giants of the Andes' Patagonia workshop picks up right after the main workshop ends, and includes a visit to further and more difficult locations: Torres Del Paine base camp and the surroundings of Mount Fitz Roy. Two of the most iconic and photogenic mountain ranges in the world, words can hardly describe these mountains' regal appearences. Joined by professional nature photographer Erez Marom and photographer/trekking expert Andrew Waddington, you will camp on location and spend 6 days hiking to the very best photographic spots in Patagonia.
This Annex is only for people who are fit enough to trek and endure strenuous hikes and wild camping. It will not be extreme in any way but it will require a good deal of physical effort. It is the perfect addendum to the easier main workshop.
The hiking workshop will commence in Torres Del Paine, right when the main workshop ends. Details coming soon!
After a night in a comfy hotel in El Chalten, we will start the second part of the hiking annex. We will be hauled by car to the easiest point to begin our hike. From there, we'll be carrying our personal equipment - photo bags, sleeping bags and mats - on a 4-hour hike to Campo Poincenot. Upon arrival we'll settle in camp and start exploring the area.
During the next 3 days we'll be hiking to several shooting points with mount Fitz Roy as the majestic backdrop. Tranquil lakes and lagoons will reflect magical pink Alpenglow of the mountain, and beautiful autumn leaves will supply a fantastic color palette to complement the mountains. We will also shoot the mountain with waterfalls and streams in the foreground.
If conditions are favorable, we'll do additional hikes to shoot Glaciar Piedras Blancas, and make the extra effort to shoot Fitz Roy by night.
After a sunrise shoot on day 5 we'll hike back to El Chalten, where we'll eat lunch and take a bus back to El Calafate, where the workshop will conclude.

Physical Difficulty: Advanced. There will be plenty of hikes and altitude gains, and your physical fitness is critical for your enjoyment of this workshop. The hike to Torres base camp is about 4 hours long, and the first part of it is a bit steep. The hike to the torres and lagoon is an additional 1-2 hours. The hike to Campo Poincenot is about 4 hours. The hike up to Laguna de los Tres is very strenuous and includes considerable altitude gain. There will be five nights of camping in the wild in tents and without running water or flush-toilets. Weather conditions in Patagonia can be unpredictable, and you should be prepared to withstand temperatures as low as -5 degrees centigrade (at night), in addition to strong winds, but conditions are usually on the calm side this time of year.
Born in 1980, Erez Marom is a full-time nature photographer, photography guide, writer and traveler-adventurer based in Israel. Specializing in landscape and wildlife photography, Erez spends much of his time in the field shooting the wildlife and scenery of his favorite locations in Israel and overseas.
In addition, Erez publishes articles and instructional texts in leading magazines and websites, and dedicates a considerable amount of his time to sharing his experience and knowledge by lecturing worldwide and traveling several times a year to guide his unique photography workshops.
Andrew Waddington is a landscape photographer from England who grew up in a photographic family, the family business retailed cameras for nearly a half century so even as a child he was never far from a camera. Like so many others the digital age made photography more affordable and so after 15 years of travelling the world Andrew took to photography as a way of slowing down and truly appreciating his surroundings. Andrew has shot the American west for almost three years, he has also photographed Patagonia extensively and is currently on a one year trip shooting in both Los Glaciers and Torres del Paine National Parks.

Workshop cost will be partially refunded in case weather prevents us from doing any hikes. In case we are delayed in arrival to Poincenot or early in return to El Chalten due to weather or other conditions, you will be required to pay for your own accommodation and food in those nights.
Important: In order to join the workshop, you will be required to sign a contract that establishes that the tour leaders are not responsible to physical or proprietary damages, and that you understand and accept several behavioral standards (including not taking excessive risk), necessary to ensure the workshop's success and your safe return.
