  • Rice Hill Folktales, Part 1: Banished

  • Riisitunturi National Park, Finnish Lapland

  • I was driving to Riisitunturi (rice-hill in Finnish) on a winter afternoon when I noticed heavy fog on the hilltop. I was very excited and raced up with my snowshoes. Shooting these amazing, snow-laden trees from inside a thick layer of fog made the experience much more magical. As the sun slowly set, the colors became better and better, and the fog turned orange and then pink. The trees were in a totally pristine state, covered with fresh, heavy snow. All of this really made me feel like I was inside a fairy tale. What an incredible shoot in this awesome place. In this shot, the first of the resulting series, the bent trees seemed like a group of people banished from their village.
